Writing Term 4 Week 1 & 2
Writing Term 4 Week 1 & 2
9th of October, when it all happen. This is the day when I felt scared and unfamiliar. They say that having an appointment in that place would go fine, but for me it went unusual.
Early in the overcast morning, in the second week of term 3, me and my family was having a superior holiday, just by spending time at home, especially my siblings. They probably won’t endure if there wasn’t any WIFI. Well I can live without WIFI. Anyway, it was all going well until the word “you’re having a check up with the doctor” came out in my mother’s mouth. How shocking it was for me and how could I not react to that. All I said was the word WHAT! to my mother and I think she was expecting me likely to be happy. Just because I had a lot of experiences with doctors doesn’t mean I’m used to it. I know for sure that I do not like seeing doctors. I thought it wouldn’t go any worse but it did. The worst thing is that I'm not just seeing my usual doctor but a different one. A specialist one. I never had any experience with specialists! But I’m pretty sure they’re more scarier and worse than my usual doctor. In my opinion, a specialist can be severe and scary. Scarier than the clown in the movie titled “IT”. I’m not trying to be mean or something, but I’m just telling the truth. Then a complain came out of my mouth “This can be a pain” I whispered to myself with a sight of miserable.
I took a shower, I packed up and brushed my teeth, getting ready for the appointment. Taking a step outside and heading towards the car with my whole family in it. Are they coming to support me and to cheer me up, or are they coming just to tease and scare me? I just thought that this is too much thinking for today and I’m just scaring myself thinking negative thoughts. This is all because of fear and I blame it. A few minutes later, hearing and seeing raindrops in the window in the side of the car, makes me out of my stress, and seeing new buildings around the city makes me feel a bit better. A few minutes later, turning around in the street over there, observing the place called “Specialists at nine” makes me worry again. That word “Specialist” is really getting on my nerves, and having that “awhhh” moment, complaining and overthinking.
Then the car stopped at that place called Specialists at nine in the parking lot. “Goodbye! And have a great time” Dad said. How am I gonna have a great time?, I asked myself. “Yeah” I responded. Then I took a step outside, appreciating the beauty of nature while raining and smelling the scent of the cold fresh air. It was all pleasant but will my appointment be? I was already over thinking, again! Then I looked around, while mum was outside with me having a conversation with dad through the opened window in the car. “Just call me when you guys are finish, and we will be around the city roaming around.” He said. “ Yeah, ok” mum replied.
Me and my mum was walking in the pavement near the hospital. In my view, the hospital looks like an apartment. We were going towards the entrance which has a glass door. When I arrive inside the hospital, I noticed some names. Names of the specialists. “Mum, what is the name of the specialists, that I’m having an appointment to?” I asked. “Dr. Scott Stevenson” She replied. Then we went upstairs by using the stairs. In the second floor, me and my mum was finding and observing the names, but the specialists that were looking for wasn’t there. I noticed that me and my mum was getting lost and neither of us doesn’t know where to go. Then we went upstairs again, looking for the name and finally found the name. Near the lists of the names is a door.
We went inside and saw someone in the hospital counter. “Excuse me, can you please tell me where Dr. Scott Stevenson is?” Mum asked, then the lady inside the counter replied back, “Yeah, just keep on going straight then turn left, then you will see another counter, then you can ask the lady over there, about your appointment with Dr. Scott Stevenson.” Mum thanked the lady in the counter, furthermore we went straight then we took a left, then we saw the counter. Mum asked about my appointment and the lady in the counter told us to took a seat over there. Seating in a couch was making me comfortable. A few more minutes past when I suddenly heard my name. My heartbeat went as fast as a cheetah. “This is it” I said to myself getting up the couch.
Being nervous and being tensed is really bad for my health that’s why I took a deep breath and carry on walking towards Dr. Scott’s room. He told us to seat in the chair, then he started asking me questions like I’m having an interview. The interview was all about my nose. To be honest I’m having some issues about my nose, something like having a block nose everyday. I think it’s because of the season or maybe because of my hayfever, but it wasn’t. The specialist told me to seat in the comfy chair over there. I laid down, then he took his flashlight and equipment. Then he started checking my ears, eyes, nose and my other senses. After that, he told me again to seat back in the chair (not the comfortable one). Then he started explaining the issues and why the medicines that my usual doctor gives doesn’t work anymore. It is something about the cartilage or something. He said that it went bigger. Then he suddenly, came up with a silly plan. “We would need to have an operation for her” he said. “What the!” I was outrage. I feel like I wanna faint.
I felt like this would be the end of the world for me. I felt confused and felt horrified. Why the heck do I need an operation? I asked myself. Oh well. I wasn’t even listening to the specialist any more I was just daydreaming of what will happen during the operation. My mum was asking some questions like “Would this be a risk for her?” I was just out of my mind that I couldn’t even think. Then after the conversation between my mum and Dr. Scott, all of us went outside the room. My mother checked with the counter and asked “Would there be any cost for the operation?”.“It depends” the lady in the counter replied. Then Dr. Scott gave my mum a receipt and schedules of his operation so we can make an appointment as soon as possible.
After that me and my mum went down the building. My mum called dad using the phone and told him to pick us up. After a few minutes, my dad and my siblings arrived with the scent of the food. When we both got in the car, I spotted my siblings drinking some drinks, then I asked “Did you guys went to Mcdonalds” I asked with a sight of confusion. They answered “yes”. I sighed dramatically. Going to the doctor was all fine, it didn’t turn out the way I wanted, at least when getting an operation can make my life better.

Changes in Nature 18th October
Changes in Nature 18th October
- What are Geologic Time Periods?
The geological time is a system of chronological measurement, that relates to stratigraphy time. It is used by geologists, paleontologists, and also other Earth scientists to describe the timing and relationships between events that have occurred throughout Earth’s history.
- Name them
- Why are they important to scientists?
Time is a very important in geology, this is because the exact timing of spatially separated events allows us to reconstruct the surface and surface conditions of the ancient earth. Scientist are discovering more about time and also geology that's why this is important.

Endangered Species September 20/21
20th September 2017
Definition: Animals that are in danger of being extinct.
Endangered species of NZ animals:
Maui Dolphin
Chester field
Eyelash seaweed
Mokohinau stag beetle
NZ fairytern
Blue duck
Canterbury knobbled weevil
Kiwi
Weka
Land snail
What will happen to the species if it is note given any help
use 1 example and discuss:
a) How it became endangered?
Destruction of habitat resulting from human activity such as; mining, pollution, deforestation and sometimes agriculture. Sometimes this can be caused by our actions.
b) What is being done to help it?
Some open range zoo and wildlife are trying to protect the endangered animals and giving their needs. Some people are planting trees for our forests and also for our endangered species that lives in the forests. The legislator who makes the laws are, making the laws for our environment like forests and more.(The best way to protect our endangered species is too protect the special places where they live.)
c) How successful has this help been?
There are some good process but still working on keeping them safe and how to help them.

Topic: Saving the whales
Habitat: Ocean, Sea
Food: It depends on the whales size, social structure, environment, species and type (baleen or toothed) their diets can change drastically from small aquatic life forms such as fish, shrimp, larvae, plankton, crabs, krill and squid to large marine mammals as sealions, walruses, seals, sharks, seabirds and even large whales.
Breeding: A female that is mature will generally have a new calf every 2 or 3 years. The mother will continue nursing her child until it is able to hunt for food and survive on it's own, that can last from 6 months to 2 year depending on the whale's species.
What effect are these having on the environment+species living there?
The impact of mining can include erosion, loss of biodiversity, formation of sinkholes, contamination of soil, groundwater and surface water by chemicals (from mining process). This can also affect our health and may affect the wildlife species. This can be dangerous in many ways and at many levels within the ecosystem. Some contaminants associated with mines (such as; lead arsenic cyanide and more), this may cause chronic effects on resident wildlife.
Is the use of mining worth destroying animals and plants? Why?
It is not worth mining and destroying the animals and plants, this is because plants and animals are more important than the minerals in Earth. Plants and animals are living things we should treasure.
Why is mining used?
Removal of minerals such as: manganese, tantalum, cassiterite, copper, tin, nickel, bauxite, iron, ore, gold, silver and diamond. Mining is money making business.

PE Gymnastics 26th September
In PE today, we did some gymnastics. Me and my group went on the trampoline, on the bars and the parallel bars. This will be the last session of gymnastics and we had fun. I learnt new things such as; sea drop (on the trampoline), half a turn (on the trampoline), doing a forward roll and a backward roll (on the mat), walking on my hands on the parallel bars, walking and doing some tricks on the beam. There might be somethings that I haven't done or succeed such as; doing a forward and backward roll on the bars. Those things I haven't succeed might be my next goal for the next session for PE.

Gymnastics P.E 12th of September
Gymnastics
I wanted to achieve how to walk in the beams properly and learn how to roll forwards and backwards in the bars, by the end of this period.
I achieved walking in the beams properly (and also jumping in the beams, doing some tricks), and I didn't achieve rolling forwards and backwards in bars. Next time my next goal is having to roll forwards and backwards in the bars and doing it properly.

Conclusion
Why are these important?
Because it taught us a lesson, also this can be a reason to be more protective for our planet/country (Conservation). How to change.
What effect have they had on the areas around them?
It spread around them and also there will be a possibility that an accident might come. (effect like; too much radiation, poison, sickness, etc.)
What have we learnt from them?
Not to have any Nuclear power plant and to be more careful and attentive.
